The Latest

As we explained in past updates, we planned on taking a nice long break from touring and from doing pretty much anything that was associated with Jacob’s Well starting May 2007. Now when people hear that, they typically assume something BAD has happened that has lead us to stop touring. Well that’s not really the fact for us at all. Things were so GOOD that it seemed the perfect time to lay everything aside and just rest for awhile. We are still in the midst of that season of rest, and now with some added changes in our lives, it may be a bit longer than we had anticipated originally before we see ourselves back out on the road. Even though that kinda stinks for those who have been waiting a long time to see us, the cool part is that we aren’t in control of any of that and can’t take the blame! We just get the sacred privilege to take part in something God is designing - thus, if you have a problem with that (sarcastically speaking), take it up with Him!

Seriously though, we’re doing great! We have seen God doing just freakishly amazing things through this ministry we’ve been a part of for going on 10 years now. 10 YEARS!!! He has taken the music He has given us to the four corners of the globe and has used songs we have written to lead others in worship all over the country and the world. That’s just ridiculously amazing and absolutley humbling. It’s weird even typing it and reading it back. US? HUH??? How did we get here??? Haha. Praise the Lord for He is Good!

We’re in April 2008 now and it’s nearly 1 year since we started our long break. We began to start booking some events a couple months ago - that was until me (Rob) & Elise found out that we were expecting a little BOY (Micah Jonathan Loomis) in August. With that, our plans have again changed. Typically we would find ourselves on tour for 1-3 months at a time. It’s not that we don’t foresee ourselves doing that sometime again in the future, it’s just that with a newborn and a new cafe’ to run in our home town, we have a few too many things to juggle right now to ’hit the road’ for any long periods of time. With that said, we are VERY much looking at every opportunity that comes our way and prayerfully considering them. Because we need to pay our medical bills and start buying clothes and diapers for the little man, we may not be able to always afford to play for "whatever you can afford" anymore. That’s hard for us to admit because for almost 10 years, we have traveled under that umbrella - and we were blessed in amazing ways! We’re confident that people will understand our need to change our ’ways’.

Now, you may be asking what about kevin? Kevin is doing really good. He’s been teaching drums to what seems like every kid in Kitsap County. He’s one of the most sought-after drummers and drum teachers in the area! As of today, he’s looking at more than 40 students he teaches weekly. There’s not many who can make a good living doing what he does. It’s a gift to have the patience to deal with adolescent kids banging away on drums. Haha! Besides teaching, he recently sold his coffee shop and has started spending more time working on his house for that ever-illusive future Mrs. Blackwood. Kevin is the coolest guy on the planet. We love him. You can’t have him. Nope.

In music news, with the ’baby on the way’, Elise’s writing (for her future solo project) has taken a little bit of a back seat (Cue the wimpers and wails of sadness). We have some things we’re working on, but recording is not on the calendar quite yet. As far as my next MOMENTS album, I’m actually hoping to get started on that sooner than later - like NEXT MONTH? I’m going to be doing most of it myself and probably have Saki mix/master it. As far as the next JW release? We’ll let you know when we know.

What else. There’s a lot to tell. Perhaps we should do a video blog and that way you can be a part of our wacky ways and see the facical expressions and chatter that goes on when we talk about stuff like this. Yeah, I think that’s the best thing to do. OK - so it’s a date. We’ll get to work on that ASAP and post it here (or at least a link to it).

WE LOVE YOU ALL. Thank you for being our dearest friends. We hope to see many of you again before too long. In the meantime, stay close to Jesus! God bless you richly!

Fall Update

Things are going GREAT here in Poulsbo at Yipi Bubble Tea (www.yipibubbletea.com).  We are really having a great time! The community is in LOVE with the new place and we are seeing our numbers grow every day.  What a great opportunity we have to be a market place ministry in Kitsap County.  :)

After almost 7 years on the road, we have decided as a band to take a nice long break to focus on our home fellowships (Calvary Chapel of Poulsbo for Me and Elise, and Faith Fellowship in Silverdale for Kevin), our relationships with friends and families.

In the meantime, Elise is hoping to begin working/writing for a solo album with the help of producer Masaki Liu (Five Iron Frenzy, Justin McRoberts, Five Minute Walk Records).  I'm personally very much looking forward to that!!  We are also planning on heading back out to hawaii again in '08.  This will be our  sixth year in a row we've visited the islands.  We have made sure to make this a priority for us each year because we are so blessed each time we go.  The people out there are so open to hear the Gospel and we have made some amazing relationships throughout numerous ministries.

God bless you all as you continue to serve our amazing God!

"Where are you guys now?" That's the question we get a lot in our emails, phone messages and smoke signals. To answer that with as much clarity as possible... we are back home in Poulsbo Washington (for those that don't know where that is, install the latest version of Google Earth and search for it for a few minutes of fun) for what may turn out to be a long while. After about 6 1/2 years of touring quite solidly around the U.S. we are going to be taking an extended break from the road and focus on some of areas that unfortunately get neglected being on the road for so many months a year. Things such as family, friends, church, our businesses we each own (more on those below) as well as our own personal relationships with the Lord are just a few of the things we will be focusing our attention on. It's amazing how you can get so busy in the ministry serving the Lord and serving others that you forget about the Lord and others all together. Ever had that happen? We've consciously made the effort to make sure we didn't fall into that roll as much as possible, but to be honest, it's inevitable at times and we have ended up smacking our faces against a wall on numerous occasions. Over the past year or so we have had many changes come into our lives and have also begun to notice that we were becoming strangers to those closest to us - it's kind of like coming home to another hotel when it should feel like a place of refuge and regeneration. For those of you who are touring musicians/ministeries and the such, I KNOW you will relate to that. After this last tour we just returned from recently, we all felt it and knew it was time to lay things down for a season. You CAN have too much of a good thing!

So as it is today, Kevin will be continuing to teach his 40+ (wow!) drum students as well as run his Coffee Shop (Tre Voci Coffee Co.) in Kingston WA. Kevin has the best coffee in town by far. As for Elise and I, we have recently started a Young Adult Fellowship at our home church (Calvary Chapel of Poulsbo) which we are just absolutely stoked about. We have a yearning to see this age group (18-30's) absolutely passionate about Jesus and in turn those who don't know Him. We of course will continue to lead worship at our church as well. We also have just announced the opening of a new Cafe' of our own here in Poulsbo. Starting sometime in July (depending on how fast we can re-model the building), Elise and I will open "Yipi Bubble Tea" (www.yipibubbletea.com) to the anxious awaiting patrons of our area. We will be serving Bubble Tea (if you don't know what that is, do a google search), Yerba Mate` (do another google search), real fruit smoothies w/ optional protien and/or supplements, as well as sweet and savory Crepes! Crazy I know - who would-a thunk it? I personally will also be working on another piano album and there is something in the wind that Elise may be working on material for an album of her very own? I personally will break that disc by listening to it too much...

As far as Jacob's Well in general - we are VERY much still going to play together and tour here and there. However, with the many changes in our lives, our out-of-town dates are going to be confined to a couple weekends a month at most. If you are wanting to have JW at your fellowship or event, just call (206.650.1625) or write (booking@wellwatermusic.com) for more information.
All is well and we are so excited for what the Lord has in store for each of us. Will you pray for us? Will you pray right now for us? Patience, direction, clarity, health, provision, strength and determination - all areas we can use your prayers!
We deeply love each you and are looking forward to seeing you all before long. Till then, stay close to Jesus...

Road Troubles Abound

In the last 7 years of touring, we have never really had that many ‘car’ issues...until today. The day started out like any other day except for a haunting memory of something one of our friends said in a prayer the night before. During the last moments of our last concert in San Gabriel CA, the MC for the event prayed something similar to the following:

Father protect Jacob’s Well as they drive home tomorrow. Keep their car running well. Even if their call DOESN’T run well, Lord may your will be done and may you be glorified through it all. ”

It was the first time someone had prayed something about our car NOT making it and you better believe I took note of that. I had never really thought that our car would break down. Heck, we have a 2002 Toyota 4-Runner SR5 towing an 8 foot Wells Cargo trailer. It’s a great rig and we’ve NEVER had any problems. Knock on wood....but their’s no wood around to nock on....YIKES!!!

So the day started out well. We left the LA area and were out in the middle of a section of Interstate 5 I like to call, NOWHERE, when all of a sudden I felt a slight shudder in the car. I took off my headphones and just listened for a few moments. The shudder became consistant very quickly. Having been a 1974 VW bus owner, I knew immediatley what was happening. One of the pistons was mis-firing and we were losing speed rapidly. We pulled over near an orchard or Mandarin Oranges and began to diagnose the problem. We checked some spark plug cables but without the proper tools, we were pretty much stuck. The next gas station? 45 miles away. Knowing all we could do was drive, we took it easy and limped the car to the next service station. The service station luckily had a one man tire center. The only problem was that there was an abnormally large sign posted on the front of the building that read “WE DO NOT LOAN OUT TOOLS”. Great. Obviously this sort of thing has happened before here.

Kevin, being Kevin, disregarded the sign and proceeded to ask the hispanic man inside wether or not he had any tools to pull out some spark plugs. Kevin, eyeing the large red tool chest in the corner of room was suprised to hear the gentleman say “don’t let anyone else know but feel free to pull around back and I’ll let you use my tools”. Ok, so much for the sign. After getting the tools we needed we began to diagose the issue. Sure enough, we had a mis-firing spark plug that was black as black...it was burned out. The tools we had helped us diagnose the problem but they were not going to help us fix the problem, because we needed SPARK plugs, not tires. The gentleman told us in his thick spanish accent that the next town was another 40 miles away. We debated to get towed but I knew that if we got up to a decent crusing speed (now knowing it was just a spark plug), the car would run fine. It’s just in the lower speeds and hills that the car would feel the lack of power and begin to shudder.

Fast forward to Stockton CA. We decided to keep going another 80 miles with little issue until we found a auto parts store. $54.00 later we had new plugs, new socket set, 12 cans of XS energy drink we bought off some guy (who probably stole them) for $5.00 and high hopes of getting back on the road. We still had 5 hours to go to get to Grants Pass Oregon. After about an hour, we pulled the culprit plug (check out the phone cam journal for a photo) in all it’s burned up glory. Baaaaad. We replaced the plugs and the car puuured again! Hallelujah!

We headed back out to I-5 and began heading north. I put my headphones back on and began to drift off into a deep sleep...hoping to wake up in Grants Pass.......

....until...

....SHUDDER....SHUDDER....PUT PUT...COUGH...WEEEEEEEZE. What the heck is wrong NOW!?? Knowing that this was NOT a spark plug issue, I naturally looked at the gas guage. The gas said 1/4 tank remaning. But it felt like we just ran out of gas.....

...Come back later and read the the outcome!

Yuba City CA

I don’t really know what to say about our time in Yuba city other than what I wrote in my personal journal just a few moments ago....“Father thank you for the amazing time we had in Yuba City this weekend. I’m so blessed to know that there are fellowships such as Crossroads Church that love You desperatley and desire to see others SAVED and serving You.”

The four of us had one of the best weekends we have had in a long time with a church. It wasn’t just the fellowship time we had but it was what we witnessed during our concert on Saturday night and the sweet ministry we saw during the sunday services. There’s just something about Crossroads Church that touched us. The last time we were there was 3 years ago and it was just me (Rob) and Elise - but if my memory serves me right, we were JUST as blessed then as we were this time.

Thank you to Pastor Jim, Rob, Adam, Karen and the others who helped us out and made our time at Crossroads so memorable. God bless you all richly!

First Baptist Church - Elk Grove CA.

What a GREAT night of worship! It was really amazing to see so many of you again this year. Catching up with some of you and hearing how faithful the Lord has been to you was so encouraging. We were blessed to be able to share with you and look forward to coming back again next year. Until then remember that GOD LOVES YOU. He’s a jealous God who desires nothing less than ALL of you. We pray that God would help you remove anything in your life that is perhaps drawing away your focus on Him. God bless you!

Leaving Brookings Oregon

Last night we spent the evening with our friends at Brookings Christian Fellowship (and those of you from other fellowships in the area) worshipping Jesus and just having a good time. It was great to see so many familiar faces. We meant what we said when you said that you guys are a blessing to us every year that we come out. You live in one of the most beautiful areas in the world. Not to mention you got some amazingly HUGE Redwood trees in your back yards! Wow. We look forward to coming back out in next year (Lord willing). We will be praying for you...

P.S.
For all of you guys (Brad, Mason, you girls with the guitars we were playing with after the concert, and everyone else who
